The Mammoths were comparable to Elephants. At the same time mammoths were related to elephants. However they were bigger and were covered with hair. As well as having much longer tusks. In this case their teeth were made up of alternating plates of enamel that were used in a constant back to front chewing motion. As a result their teeth were worn down smooth. Mammoths were herbivores — they ate plants. More specifically in this case they were grazers that primarily ate grass.
HOW MUCH DID THEY EAT?
They may have grazed up to 20 hours per day to eat the nearly 400 pounds of vegetation required to sustain them.
