Thrausmosaurus is a genus of synapsid pelycosaurs, in this case from the extinct family Varanopidae. Like all that resemble members of Varanopidae, Thrausmosaurus were comparable to modern monitor lizard and may have had the same lifestyle.  At the same time they coexisted with other synapsids such as Dimetrodons and Edaphosaurus for example.  Furthermore, although they look like reptiles they represent a separate lineage that finally led to mammals.
