In the case of the Siklhote-Alin Meteorite, in 1947 the largest witnessed meteorite unlike any other, struck the earth in Southeastern Russia. As a result of its size the bright flash and deafening sound was seen as well as heard 190 miles away from the point of impact. In this case an estimated 23 tons of meteorite fragments survived the fall. However, the largest non witnessed meteorite find is the Hoba Meteorite with 60 tons of fragments.
