Ptychodus was one of the more unique sharks of the Cretaceous oceans. Instead of having sharp, pointed teeth for tearing flesh from its prey, they had teeth that were thick and rounded that it would use to crush
shellfish and other crustaceans it would suck up from the bottom of the ocean floor or ambush in the open waters.
Ptychodus is a genus of extinct durophagous (shell-crushing) sharks from the Late Cretaceous. Fossils of Ptychodus teeth are found in many Late Cretaceous marine sediments.[3] There are many species among the Ptychodus that have been uncovered on all the continents around the globe.
