Vascoceras is an extinct genus of Cretaceous ammonites. These fast-moving swimming carnivores lived in the Cretaceous period, in this case approximately 93 million years ago.

WHERE IS NIGERIA?

Nigeria is located in the western part of Africa continent.

WHAT DID AN AMMONITE LOOK LIKE?

Some Ammonites had long, straight shells. while others had helix-shaped shells. Most of the species were covered with coiled shells too.  As a result they had large-sized chambers separated by thin walls also called septa. In the same way as Nautiloids, they were round in shape.   In addition, they grew new shell material patterns and shapes as they grew older in their life.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE AMMONITES?

These creatures lived in the seas from at least 400 to 65 million years ago. They became extinct at the K/T extinction event.
