Here is a pelycosaur from the extinct family Vananopidae, subfamily Mycterosaurinae. At the same time it is the most primitive member of its family. Like all members of Varanopidae, it most likely resembled the modern monitor lizard. Similarly may have had the same type of lifestyle.  However it lacked some features that its advanced relatives had. The small size suggests that this genus was as predator of small vertebrates and possible larger invertebrates.
