When first described Kemkemia was originally thought to be a spinosaurid theropod dinosaur, and one with unusual vertebrae. However, three years after it was described, a new paper re-identified the holotype specimen of as actually being a crocodyliformes. Due to a lack of a skeleton however, the debate is still ongoing.
