Holmesina individuals were much larger than any modern armadillo. For example they could reach a length of 6.6 ft and also reached a weight of 500 lbs. In contrast the modern giant armadillo does not attain more than 119 lbs.
Their shell was made up of flexible plates or scutes which subsequently allowed the animal to move more easily.
