The Green River Formation is an Eocene geologic formation. In this case it records the sedimentation in a group of intermountain lakes. As a result three basins along the present-day Green River in Colorado,
Wyoming, and Utah. The sediments are deposited in very fine layers, for example there is a dark layer during the growing season, however a light-hue inorganic layer in the dry season. The Green River Formation is well known for its Fossil Fish but also contains a huge diversity of plants as well as insects, etc.
