Eryops is a genus of extinct, primitive amphibians that lived in the swamps of the Permian Period (about 299 to 251 million years ago). It is an ancient relative of modern-day amphibians, such as frogs, toads, and salamanders. The Erypops looked similar to a giant salamander than a toad.  On the other hand it was much larger, averaging 5 to 6.5 feet long.  In addition to the length it weighed up to 200 pounds!

Eryops was better adapted to a terrestrial environment than its ancestors. Sturdy limbs and a strong spine supported the body while out of water.
