These tiny “pea crabs” had been found in large numbers. Due to perfect conditions their preservation was superb. For instance this specimen had been preserved and appears as if it is ready to crawl off the matrix. In this case, the pea crabs lived symbiotically with clams, tube worms, and other fauna. For instance they fed on the results of their host’s filtering. For example in the case of sea cucumbers they live in the cloaca feeding off of the results of digestion and reproduction. Furthermore they have no rostrum and no teeth between the eyes.
Crustaceans are members of an enormous category of creatures known as arthropods. Arthropod is from the Greek meaning “jointed leg.”. All of the members of the family have exoskeletons and jointed limbs. The arthropod phylum also includes insects and arachnids. Crabs are decapod crustaceans because they have ten legs.
