  • The matrix measures  11.75″ long and the Chelotriton measures  7.5″ long.  This specimen has what appears to be a bunch of clams in its gut area.  Was this its last meal that may have killed it by clogging up its digestive system?

Chelotriton is an extinct genus of prehistoric salamanders that lived in Europe and Central Asia during the *Neogene. It closely resembles the extant genera Tylototriton and Echinotriton.

*The Neogene informally Upper Tertiary or Late Tertiary, is a geologic period and system that spans 20.45 million years from the end of the Paleogene Period 23.03 million years ago (Mya) to the beginning of the present Quaternary Period 2.58 Mya. The Neogene is sub-divided into two epochs, the earlier Miocene and the later Pliocene.
