In spite of being only 2 feet long and weighing a few pounds this primitive pelycosaurs was comparable in appearance to todays modern monitor lizards. However they are only distantly related. Unlike monitor lizards this critter inhabited swamplands and as a result most likely fed on insects as well as small animals. In the same way as all pelycosaurs they went extinct at the end of the Permian.
